On the swoon scale, when it comes to the Scandi meets Brit work of Sandra Isaksson of ISAK, it’s off the charts. The Swedish graphic designer and illustrator who works with the likes of Habitat and her fresh, edgy, with an exciting blend of contemporary meets retro designs feature across fantastic artwork, wallpaper, bedding, homewares and accessories, and also across 18 month old Eden’s Scandinavian inspired nursery space. Based in Arundel, West Sussex, she’s also mum to Theo 6, and due to have baby number 3 in a couple of weeks.
Sandra has kindly shared a few photos with us for some room candy inspiration. The nursery is a clean, modern setting filled with the warmth of well chosen pieces that capture childhood innocence and reflect her taste for ethical, well made pieces. The white floorboards look so great, I want to go downstairs and rip up the girls carpets, but I suspect the boyf will be non too pleased with my latest escapade… Anyway!
We caught up with Sandra to get some details:
What was your inspiration for the room?
I just like collecting and putting together things that I like… I very much detest branded Disney stuff and plastic toys so I go for traditional wooden toys and innocent feeling retro Scandinavian clean designs.
How would you describe the space?
Scandinavian… We have white wooden floor boards in the baby room which I love. It’s so light and airy in spite of being a small room. This is the aim for the whole house, wooden floors, light and airy!
Did you have a set plan or has it evolved?
No set plans what so ever. Each room evolves… But the basics theme or starting point is wood and light.
Have you enjoyed decorating the space?
I enjoy it when its done! I don’t really enjoy sanding floors and cleaning up after the plasterer… Wallpapering is OK because there’s a good sense of achivement after when you stand back and watch the result.
Any future plans?
Future plans are adding more wallpaper to the rooms, more shelving space etc. When baby no 3 arrives, 18 month old Eden is going in big brother Theo’s bed ( pictured below) and Theo will have a bunk bed with a desk underneath.

Any tips for decorating rooms and sourcing pieces?

Good storage! – Toys can be hidden away, out of sight. If you’re interested to find more unusual pieces, less mainstream plastic junk that you can find anywhere – read blogs. They’re a great way sourcing new interesting design. And shop on line! But I would suspect that anyone reading Bambino Goodies does this already!

Where did you buy the key pieces from in the room?
In “Eadie’s” (their nickname for Eden) nursery, he’s wearing a Polarn & Pyret romper suit, and lying on an ISAK penguin blanket against a backdrop of the wallpaper. The truck is by eco-friendly Thai company, Plan Toys and the poster in the background is my Isak 123 Tree Poster.
The garage is also by Plan Toys and and the rocking chair is by Ikea, with Moomin wellies [how cool!] sitting on it.
The Arc toy box is from German company Holtztiger (we’re still trying to find an online stockist!), dresser from La Redoute (we think Verbaudet although it’s not currently being sold), and the cardboard toy boxes are Green Lullaby’s eco friendly Multiboxes, as featured last year.
In Theo’s room, soon to be joined by Eden, the bed is from Ikea with Katvig bedding, the lights are Candeloo’s eco friendly night lights , and the [fantastic] owl picture – one mummy made.

Check out all of Sandra’s divine buys at ISAK, plus she has a blog as well.
