In another edition from ‘Our Family Life’ our ongoing feature that takes a peak into the lives of BG readers, we cross the Atlantic to meet Amy and Joe Sharp from Little Alouette.
Our Family: Amy and Joe and (finnian 6 Blaise 3 and Scout newborn)
Where do you live: Columbus, Ohio (they’re originally from the north of England)
Quick description of your home: We always buy the ugliest house on the best block – It is a Dutch colonial kind of home and we’re slowly putting it back together. It’s what we have been doing over the last few years – but I want to stay in this one!
Occupations: Toy Designers and owners of Little Alouette . Mama is also a freelance writer and is almost finished with a first novel.
How would you describe your living style: We like modern mixed with found and vintage. We are still in the process of putting this home together- some rooms are finished and some are a nightmare. We are relaxed and messy.
Favorite shops for parents: Apple, Nordstrom, Target, always loved Banana Republic, and Etsy
Favourite shops for kids: Nordstrom/- the best shoes ever for kiddos and in the sales they are cheaper than some high street stops. Amazing customer service and fitting. I also like the Lego shop.
Favourite designers/brands for kids: Gap, Old Navy, Zutano, Oilily Camper, and Etsy
Places To Go: Lowes hotels- great for families. Europe – take the kids to castles! England – wales! Shropshire is GORGEOUS! Greece! (the islands) Chicago and New York.
What do you (parents) do in your spare time? Read, shop thrift and vintage shops, poker and sleep!
How would you describe your personal style? Boho and free. But also I love to get glammed out once a year. Joe is work attire all the time – carpenter clothes- but he loves to dress smart and would rock a Theory wardrobe.
How would you describe the style of your kids? Ragamuffin rockstars. They mostly dress themselves. I like it that way. My fashion idea with boys is to let them dress in lots of color. Girls have the best duds – and it can be pricey to dress little guys super cool- so mix and match. Orange and purple! Red and turquoise! Hats! Scarves! Cool hair! LOL

Kids favourite book: They make me read Star Wars chapter books till my brain bleeds. Also, we quite like Harry Mclarey books which our family from the UK send us.
Do any of your children have a passion or obsession? Blaise likes lego to a very obsessive place
Favourite family meal and why: We are a pizza crew. Delivered or created at home – we’re obsessed
Favourite place to eat out and why: Northstar café because they have natural and organic ingredients, are family friendly with communal tables and booths.

Favourite family activity: We like to hang out with our wee ones and take trips to our land in Athens, Ohio. We love bookstores and pubs and antique shops. We love travel (Greek Islands and backwoods and anywhere new) and food – we love cooking and eating and ice cream! We love to play!
Any items you’re lusting after: Joe wants an Ipad. Some new Doc Martens (it’s been a decade at least) and this necklace that I found on Etsy.
Any recommended hot spots: Columbus Ohio rocks!
Jenis ice creams, Short north, Igloo letterpress and Cosi
Favourite sites: Design mom, our tumblr, Adventures in Babywearing, B Blog, Dooce and Ohdeedoh as well as Twitter and Flickr.
