You know what huge fans of the Little People, Big Dreams series we are. Well now, there’s a similar collection for older children called Little Guides to Great Lives and they are just as brilliant and inspirational. Unlike Big Dreams, this series features men as well and we’ve been looking at the first five books to be published this week which feature Nelson Mandela, Leonardo da Vinci, Frida Kahlo, Amelia Earhart and Marie Curie. Each book seeks to answer a question: How did Nelson Mandela inspire the world? Why is Amelia Earhart an aviation hero? by exploring these icons’ extraordinary lives in an entertaining, accessible way. Packed with colourful illustrations, timelines, quotes and speech bubbles to accompany the facts, Little Guides to Great Lives (Laurence King, RRP £8.99) will appeal to 7-11 year olds for independent reading, but could definitely be shared with and enjoyed by younger children as well – Kitty loved reading about Marie Curie with me. The vibrant cover illustrations are a joy, making the books a fabulous gift.
