I must admit that I don’t normally pay much attention to keepsake boxes but I did when I checked out a set of trinket boxes from Freya Design. Handmade from solid, sustainable New Zealand pine and European alder and birch, and painted in non toxic paints, they have a comforting, natural smell of wood that’s missing from your atypical cardboard.
I like the plain, large memory boxes (left) whch really embody the Scandinavian simplicity of the ethos of the Swedish designer Marie Ekerholm. You can get them with illustrations and 3D detail of childhood themes, capturing flowers, fairies, friendship, animals, sport, cars and more, with personalised options available. A bit cute for a rebel like me but undoubtedly bound to be loved and treasured.
A sturdy buy with beautiful craftmanship and strong eco credentials, these make lovely gifts especially for christenings, and will certainly excite a child who wants to store their secrets. The plain boxes are from £20-£49 depending on size, plus there’s keepsake, jewellery, trinket, money boxes, and storage boxes amongst the range.
