With a pilot grandfather, there’s no way my little one can avoid a love of aviation, so I’ve made it my mission to seek out the coolest aeroplane buys on the market. Prepare for take off…
I’m still (rather heroically, I think) managing to avoid all things garish and plastic, so I’m seriously loving Global Affairs’ toys. I can’t find an online stockist for the cute crocheted plane rattle (I bought mine from Toby Tiger in Brighton), but Kids Rebellion has the funky fabric mobile for €16.50.
If you’re looking to add a little designer je ne sais quoi to the nursery, invest in one of these super-sleek models by Normann Copenhagen, £75. On the much cheaper side are Hantverkarlyan’s colourful handmade wooden toys at £19.90.
Decor-wise, there are plenty of in-flight options. Create a skyscape with these blackboard wall stickers, £13.50, add Piccalilly’s organic cotton Loop the Loop cot sheet, £16, and finish with Decaf Plush’s appliqued felt cushion, £35, which would look equally fab in an adult environment.
If you’ve got a little wannabe pilot on your hands, sate his or her appetite with this fab Pintoy wooden ride-on, £54.99, or encourage imagination with this decorate-your-own cardboard version by Paperpod, £17.95 (see our Christmas gift guide for their teepee, rocket and Wendy house).
Plane motifs are mega popular on clothes, but here are a few personal favourites. I can’t get enough of Mala’s clothing – such good quality and totally gorgeous designs – so I snapped up this bodysuit, £20, as soon as I saw it. I brought Alfie home from hospital covered in Domino Baby’s aeroplane cotton blanket, so the design really brings back memories – the hoodie, £20, is ace. DaWanda always delivers on the unusual baby clothes front – loving this organic t-shirt, €16, by Chichester-based Frogs and Sprogs.
