When I posted about the rise of The Princess and the Pea as a nursery trend I really wanted to include this beautiful handmade play set but it was not in stock at the time. On reflection it is probably just as well as it deserves a post of its very own. Manda of TreeFall Design is a talented Leeds based designer maker. Her quilts are to die for and she writes a lovely blog to boot, but it was her Princess and the Pea play set which first caught my eye.
Each set is made to order and with the loving detail Manda has worked into the design you won’t mind waiting too much. The set has a handmade princess doll with 10 handmade, quilted mini mattresses and tiny hand felted green pea. The mattresses are made from an eclectic mix of fabrics both new and old. The princess has an embroidered face, hand sewn hair and an exclusively designed hand sewn dress made from Liberty Lawn (ooh la la). The set comes in a lined linen tote with a pocket on the front for the doll which is quilted to look like mattresses. Everything about this toy is so well thought out and positively delightful that I can’t help but squeal when I think of buying one for my daughter’s birthday. $68 from Manda’s Etsy store and if you want one I would order pronto as they have just been nominated in the Handmade Olympics and I’m guessing they’ll be even more popular than ever…
