It’s no secret that I’m a bit of a nerd, so it’s no surprise that Toca Lab has gone straight to the top of my children’s app chart. A brilliant way to introduce the idea of the periodic table, Toca Lab encourages your little one to carry out experiments on elements to create new ones. While the way they are created isn’t (and doesn’t claim to be) accurate, the periodic table itself is, with atomic weights and abbreviations for all 118 elements, represented by super-cute little monster characters. Alfie and I have had great fun using the Bunsen burner, centrifuge and oscilloscope, which gives me hope he’ll love the science set we’ve got him for Christmas. If I have one criticism, it’s that it would be great to see the full names of the elements as on the table above – perhaps on a click through – as I had to rack my brains for a couple of them. Maybe they are revealed once you’ve created all the elements? I’ll let you know.
