John Lewis Wooden Train Set
This is an excellent basic set which has track, trains and scenery. It has an engine shed, level crossing, tunnel and even a lifting bridge. You get two engines and two wagons. The trees, buildings and animals add a great imaginative element.

Brio My First Railway Set
This set is brilliant as it is suitable from 18 months. Although a very basic set it is compatible with the rest of the Brio range meaning you can add to your set over time. The engine is battery powered which makes it extra fun as well as being easier if they haven’t got the hang of pushing it around.

Ikea Lliabo Train Set
If you’re looking for a serious bargain then Ikea have it for you. This set doesn’t betray it’s bargain price tag, it is as solid as any of the others featured. You can also expand the set with extras sets. Best of all you don’t have to brave a pre-Christmas Ikea as it can be purchased online.

The White Company Train Set
I adore the buildings in this set. It has all the charm you would expect from The White Company in spades. You can also buy a town block set separately to add to the buildings.
