I felt the not so gentle pitter patters of serious shopping lust when I saw this armchair over at the delectable TwentyTwentyOne.
Designed by Ben af Schulten in 1965 for Artek, the Baby Chair 616 is a beautiful, simple, contemporary design from Finland that was well ahead of its time. I love the sleek curve of the coloured chair back which also comes in white and blue and contrasts exquisitely with the chunky, natural, lacquer covered birch wood. The chair backs are made of beech veneer.
There’s no tray so it’s all about pulling your bambino right up to the table. Interestingly it’s flush with the table so there is only so close that the chair can get so I imagine this is for older children although it doesn’t state what age. There’s also no cushion or padding.
The Baby Chair 616 is £442-£461 depending on finish and it takes 6-8 weeks for delivery, so really, you need to be a serious design aficiondo unaffected by the credit crunch to introduce this into your home. Stunning though…
