Much as I hate flatpack furniture I simply can’t resist the pull of a flatpack toy. One of my (and, fortunately, Alfie’s) favourite children’s books of last year was Alice Melvin’s exquisitely illustrated The High Street, so I was excited to find Alice’s Emporium in the ever-wonderful box of delights that is the Tate Modern Shop. The die-cut pack consists of five A4 sheets of exterior, interior, characters and furniture and lots of sticky velcro dots, so no need for glue (woo hoo!).
At £9.95, it’s a brilliant (easily postable) gift – I’ve earmarked a few for the present box. The Tate website suggests it’s for ages 5 and up, but I know Alfie would love it and I can’t see why it would be unsuitable for younger children with a bit of adult help.
