When we were shopping around for a pushchair last year, the Mamas and Papas Pliko Pramette made it onto our shortlist. We felt compelled to check it out as so many people we knew were buying them and it really is ideal if you want a lightweight travel system.
It’s won a host of awards and it claims to be the lightest ‘pramette’ on the market. There are varying weights quoted for it – 9kg and 10.2kg but in my experience of trying out this pushchair, it certainly feels lighter than your chunkier travel systems which much of this being down to a chassis like a lightweight pushchair.
Suitable from birth, you can use it in lie flat carrycot (pram) mode or as a pushchair that can face in your direction of choice. If you’ve never tried one out, the pram and the pushchair seat are all one piece that converts from one to the other. It’s got adjustable handles, a one hand and quite compact fold, and even has a ride on step for a toddler. It’s also got a sizeable shopping basket and you can use their own PV Car Seat on it.
Looks wise, they’re not adventurous on colour with grey being the dominant force but they are chic in a very grey, Italian way. What I would love them to do is really branch out in colour and I reckon they’d probably sell like hot cakes!
Celebrity wise, famous users include Emma Bunton, who was also the face of Mamas and Papa.
For me, the reason why we didn’t choose the Mamas and Papas Pliko Pramette was partly down to it not being ‘out there’ enough for my wacky self, but also because it felt a bit too light for me, and because of the handle style, I didn’t feel comfortable like I do with a handlebar where I can bring my hands in much closer together.
In the meantime, check them out at Mamas and Papas without a car seat they normally cost £325-£335 and are currently reduced to £249 or with a car seat they’re £364 which is £75 off. They come in 4 (grey) shades and fabrics. These offers are until Nov 2nd at midnight.
Ideal for: M&P lovers who don’t want to be ‘risque’ with style or colour. Also great for people who are half and half – you want tradition with a modern edge.
Bang for your style buck: Moderate bang for your style buck. There’s a lorra lorra grey going on here!
Weight range: Mid weight
Don’t forget that you can see other pushchairs and prams we’ve featured in The Pushchair Track.
